OCZ Flex XLC Wins PC Perspective Editor's Choice!
2007-02-22

PC Perspective is a very influential media site, highly regarded for their head to head memory and power supply comparisons. They did what many people have been requesting...a direct shootout between the OCZ Flex XLC and the Corsair Dominator. After a head to head comparison it was clear that the Flex was the absolute winner! The active OCZ solution was able to cool the modules down 17 degrees. Here is what else they had to say?

?Overall, I'd have to say that the OCZ Flex XLC installation was about as simple as you could expect given the options it supplies. Users of passive cooling just snap it into place and those going for the liquid cooling option should expect the standard hassles of adding a component to your cooling loop.?

?For testing the overclocking capabilities of our OCZ Technology Flex XLC modules, we used the identical setup that we used in our recent Corsair Dominator review. I ran the tests on an EVGA 680i motherboard using an Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor and the model of the Flex XLC we used were the top-speed PC2-9200 modules rated at 1150 MHz at 5-5-5-18 timings. I was able to achieve the same 1200 MHz mark with the OCZ Flex XLC modules very easily. In fact, I was able to reach 1280 MHZ without a hassle at all -- without a doubt these modules are going to overclock at or beyond any other memory on the market! All of this testing was done with passive cooling, just to make the results typical of most of our readers.?

?I was very curious to see how much the water cooling option actually helped the temperatures on the modules. As seen on the previous page, we tested the primary module both with and without liquid cooling running on my standard Koolance Exos external cooling units. The Corsair modules were also tested with and without their Dominator Airflow fans for a comparison. First, note that the passive cooling results from both the OCZ Flex XLC and Corsair Dominator modules are very good and comparable. The additional cooling options for both show a marked improvement in temperatures; Corsair's Airflow drops the temperature by a full 10 degrees Celcius while the OCZ Flex XLC modules see a huge 17 degree temperature drop!?

?The results speak for themselves: OCZ's Flex XLC modules provide the coolest memory we have ever seen with teamed with a water cooling setup and provide those impressive results while remaining silent!?

?If you are in the market for the ultimate enthusiast memory solution, OCZ Technology's Flex XLC modules fit that bill perfectly. Offering not only superb passive cooling, the XLC cooling solution can supply even lower memory temperatures with the option for liquid cooling. OCZ's latest offering for the enthusiast really impresses!?
