OCZ DDR2 PC2-8000 / 1000 MHz / 4GB Platinum Edition

The PC2-8000 Platinum Edition 4GB dual channel kit is designed to boost the performance of mainstream gaming systems. These new 2GB modules are the ultimate upgrade for entry-level enthusiasts seeking an exceptional overclocking kit at a price point that suits all budgets.

As part of OCZ'?s Platinum series, the PC2-8000 2GB modules are engineered to satisfy the demands of overclockers and enthusiasts, and designed to deliver the performance and speed gamers require for today?s graphic-intensive DirectX 10 PC games. At a blistering 1GHz, the 4GB Platinum Edition runs at faster speeds than typical 2GB modules, offering incredible bandwidth and stability on the latest platforms.

For 64-bit Vista? users who need the performance of high speed memory, the PC2-8000 Platinum 4GB kit is the ideal upgrade from the standard 2GB of RAM. The OCZ PC-8000 Platinum series was developed to provide a superior computing experience that ensures the best possible gaming and productivity while maintaining excellent value for enthusiast upgrades.

The PC2-8000 Platinum 4GB Edition modules are 100% hand-tested for quality assurance and compatibility and feature high quality, platinum-mirrored XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heatspreaders for the most effective heat dissipation. Furthermore, each OCZ Platinum Edition memory module is backed by the industry leading OCZ Lifetime Warranty and technical support for unparalleled peace of mind.

* XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heatspreaders optimize the thermal management of memory modules by promoting greater airflow by means of micro-convection throughout what is usually the dead air space inside conventional heatspreader designs. In this manner, build-up of heat is avoided and thermal dissipation of the memory components is offloaded more efficiently through the honeycomb design. At the same time, mechanical stability is maintained.

**OCZ EVP (Extended Voltage Protection) is a feature that allows performance enthusiasts to use a VDIMM of 2.15V without invalidating their OCZ Lifetime Warranty.

"When you think of OCZ, you think of high performance memory. Now turn 180° around. OCZ also makes memory to meet price and performance needs of all different varieties. The PC2-8000 4GB set is just one of these price-performance products. What enthusiast does not want four gigabytes of system memory? I know I do! At the stock speeds of 500MHz this set will run a 1:1 ratio with all but the best frontside bus clocking chips on the market. The vast majority of enthusiasts do not have a 500MHz chip, so these modules give you the speed without having to massively overvolt the memory to get the results you need. Overall, I would recommend them to anyone needing inexpensive memory in a large capacity. You would not go wrong with the OCZ Platinum Edition PC2-8000 4GB set."

"The time is right to upgrade that old 2 gig PC2-5300 kit you've had for a while with a high performance 4 gig kit. The OCZ PC2-8000 Platinum Edition 4 gig kit is an excellent candidate for that upgrade. It will perform from below DDR2-800 to over DDR2-1000. It will operate at the DDR2 standard Vdimm of 1.8v, all with nice timings. The XTC heatspreaders keep the memory nice and cool and look great."

"As it turned out, the OCZ Platinum 4GB kit clocked really well at low voltage and ran spec with ease well below rated voltage. Overall though, this memory performed quite well here. Going from 2GB to 4GB was like bringing my over-powered, under-performing system out of its shell. There were no nagging little delays jumping through menus. Switching between tasks was no longer annoying. The fact of the matter is this. If you are building a new machine, especially a mid-range to upper end machine like I did the review on today, 2x2GB is the only way to go. The prices of 4x1GB of even PC2-6400 memory comes out to be more than this OCZ Platinum PC2-8000 2x2GB kit and with the 2x2GB kit you have all the advantages of potential upgrade to 8GB and no potential headaches of running 4x1GB modules."

"Rated at 5-5-5-18, the OCZ Technology PC2-8000 Platinum Edition 4GB DDR2 Kit is quite impressive in terms of timings, speed, and capacity. While overclocked to 1080MHz it was even able to outperform the DDR3 kit running at 1333MHz. And since this kit is comprised of two 2GB modules, you will easily be able to go to 8GB of memory on a motherboard with four memory slots. Given the performance, price, and lifetime warranty, I award the OCZ Technology PC2-8000 Platinum Edition 4GB DDR2 Kit the rating of Highly Recommended."

"If you're using a 64-bit operating system, there's really no reason not to run 4GB of memory. You'll see increased performance benefits, especially in Vista, and ensure you've got enough overhead to handle the latest games and apps. Our recent review of the OCZ Platinum PC2-8000 4GB kit shows that they overclock very well and are capable of reaching DDR2-1066 speeds or higher, matching the potential of memory kits that cost quite a bit more."
