OCZ Vertex Limited Edition SATA II 2.5" SSD
TechSpot Added on: 2010-03-04
"The OCZ Vertex LE 100GB performed in much the same way after we ran the full disk benchmark, as it does support the TRIM function and it appears to work well. As expected, the OCZ Vertex LE performs very much like the Vertex 2 Pro, producing an average transfer speed of 82.8MB/s when duplicating a single 6GB ISO file. This made the Vertex LE roughly 6.5% faster than the Intel X25-M G2, which averaged 5MB/s less and took 5 more seconds to complete the task. The Vertex LE was also around 71% faster than a traditional hard drive (Samsung Spinpoint F1). By matching the OCZ Vertex 2 Pro in write speeds, the Vertex LE was 36% faster than the Intel X25-M G2 and a whopping 11 times faster than the original Vertex. When running the 4K test…the drive had no trouble keeping pace with the Vertex 2 Pro, and while it matched the read performance of the Intel X25-M G2, the write performance was 35% greater. For its price, the Vertex LE seems like a pretty good option."

"[The Agility] performed quite well in the larger file size testing and delivered some excellent performance numbers. In the ATTO testing, I saw write numbers well in excess of the 135MB/s rated speeds, while the read speeds were right on the money at 230MB/s - both excellent performance indicators. The OCZ Agility series drives offer performance far in excess of a mechanical drive, comes in capacities from 30 to 250GB, come with a 3-year warranty, Trim support, Low power usage, and outstanding customer support - all for a price that won't quite break the bank."

"The good thing is that OCZ Z Series 1000 W can really deliver its labeled wattage at high temperatures, always presenting a sky-high efficiency. Right now OCZ has the advantage of being the only manufacturer with high-wattage 80 Plus Gold-certified power supplies on the market. If you are looking for a high-end 1,000 W power supply, Z Series 1000 W may be an option."

"Now we get a look at the Agility and how much better it fares with the Indilinx controller. The Agility is able to produce better transfer rates consistently. That’s mainly thanks to its spirited little Indilinx controller supported by 64MB cache. Plus, the Agility’s Indilinx controller does have the added benefit of TRIM which Samsung does not. That alone should sway your decision in favor of the Agility."

"We think the Vertex Limited Edition by OCZ would serve very nicely as a super fast notebook drive, especially if you're the type that relies on a mobile workstation or an enthusiast class desktop replacement machine. It could also serve you well as a boot/OS drive in a high-end desktop application, where you'd use standard spinning hard drives for bulk file storage. Load up all your applications on this SSD and with the load time performance characteristics we saw in our Vantage testing, it will have you smiling ear to ear. What's really important to remember about our experience with this hot new SSD from OCZ is the promise that their chosen controller vendor, Sandforce, plans to offer more affordable controller derivatives moving forward, which OCZ will feature in their product line."

“ I was impressed with the Gladiator Max’s performance…without a doubt standing far above any of those it defeated. Using 4 pipes with the “Heat-pipe Direct Touch” technology, along with a soundless 120mm fan, it’s a viable option to anyone looking for a good heat sink. At a fair price point of roughly $50 CAD, it’s a great upgrade from your stock heat sink if you’re looking to lower some temperatures, and decrease the noise coming from your tower at the same time. Not to mention, it’s simple elegance is pretty attractive, especially if you don’t anything too flashy.”

“OCZ ModXStream Pro 600 W proved to be an outstanding mainstream 600 W power supply, surprising us at all and every level. Being an inexpensive unit that has only the standard 80 Plus certification, we were expecting it to achieve efficiency around 82-83% across the board, but in fact it could maintain efficiency between 83.5% and 86.6% when we pulled up to 480 W from it (81.9% at 600 W), almost granting it 80 Plus Bronze certification… making OCZ ModXStream Pro 600 W a bargain, being the power supply with one of the best cost/benefit ratios for the average user today.”

“The Elixir keyboard works great and hotkeys are a nice bonus for gamers. I also like that OCZ includes extra W, A, S, D, arrow, and spacebar keys. For gamers these are the keys that wear down the most so having an extra set is a bonus. The included software is really easy to use and works great. Having 3 different profiles for the hotkeys is great if you play multiple games. When it comes down to it this keyboard is $20, not bad at all for a quality keyboard with 10 programmable hot keys and the other shortcut keys. I’m surprised I haven’t seen more of these keyboards at LAN parties!”

"The OCZ Vertex LE is one of the fastest SSDS that we have ever seen here at Legit Reviews. We were able to reach read speeds of up to 290MB/sec. and write speeds of up to 240MB/sec in ATTO on the Vertex LE and that was impressive. The results in IOMeter and CrystalDiskMark say it all and the Vertex LE appears to be a solid drive for the consumer market. The Vertex Limited Edition SSD has just 5,000 pieces available and with performance results like these they shouldn't be around for too long."

"The sequential write speed of this controller is just ridiculous. OCZ is able to virtually saturate the SATA 3Gbps bus at 252.7MB/s. The OCZ Vertex LE does ridiculously well here, outperforming even Intel's X25-E. There's just no replacement for IOPS, and the Vertex LE has ample to spare. Make no mistake - the Vertex Limited Edition is fast. Easily faster than the SSD posterchild Intel’s X25-M, across the board. Unlike most drives that only offer good sequential performance, the Vertex LE doesn’t use it as a crutch. Random read and write performance is spectacular, regardless of OS or partition alignment. Under Windows 7, the Vertex LE can randomly write data in 4KB at 162.2MB/s. That’s faster than Intel’s X25-M G2 can write sequentially."
