OCZ Agility 2 SATA II 2.5" SSD
PC Update (France) Added on: 2010-08-25
"With the largest line-up [40/60/90120/180/240/480] in both 2.5” and 3.5” size, performance very close to its big brother ‘Vertex 2’ and with the most interesting price tag, we find the OCZ Agility 2 -60GB- the best of the Sandforce based SSD drives."

"OCZ did not lie about their Enyo! Its read speeds are excellent. For us, the OCZ Enyo is clearly shining in this roundup. If Transfer of large files is what you are looking for, Enyo is undoubtedly the best choice for you with higher performances than its opponents. Speeds in read and writes are even coming very close to some SSD with SATA 3 GB/s platforms. The USB 3.0 port opens up a new dimension in mobile data transfer devices and confirms that external SSD drives actually need the speed of USB 3.0.”

"Our tests clearly showed that the OCZ Vertex 2 performs better than the two other SandForce-1200 based SSD we reviewed (Patriot Inferno and Mach Xtreme MX-DS), specially in 4k random benchmark (131 MB/s read and write 4K-QD32 in CrystalDiskMark, the MX-DS was 58 MB/s writing in the same test, 85 MB/s for the Inferno). We can acknowledged that the OCZ tweaked firmware really performs better with small files. If you are ready to spend a lot of your money to buy a SSD, you’d better choose the Vertex 2, one of the best on the market. But we also consider that SSD are still far too expensive for the moment. Others might wait a little more to get one of these performance beast!"

"In all tests the Agility drive shows an excellent performance. Although it is a mid-range drive, the performance is actually very close to the high end drives. Even after intensive use, the performance stays consistent."

“The OCZ Agility is more powerful than the Falcon II from G. Skill and approaches the performance of SSDs with Indilinx / Samsung chips. It is not very far from Intel in reading, while being more efficient in writing. In reading, the Agility points to 208 MB / sec average, for a maximum of 214 MB / sec and a minimum of 198 MB / sec. The flow is good and stable, with an access time of 0.1 ms. In writing, we have a 158 MB / sec average, slightly more than the specifications. At a minimum, the system drops to 122 MB / sec, for a maximum of 205 MB / sec.”

“The Vertex Turbo is an excellent SSD for overall performance. The Indilinx controller, firmware upgrades, price/performance, 3-year warranty and TRIM/Garbage Collection support are all positives for the Vertex Turbo. In sequential playback, the curve of the Vertex Turbo 30GB version is more regular...better than the Kingston / Intel 40GB for example."

"In comparison with other SSDs in the market, the Agility is very well placed. In terms of price, the Agility can save you up to 50 euros against similar performing models, which is not to be ignored. The Agility features the Indilinx controller, which comes with proper monitoring of firmware provided by OCZ and a 3 year warranty."

“The OCZ Agility is a low cost Vertex and we have demonstrated throughout this test by providing performance modeled on the Vertex, just a little behind. Apart from the maximum flow, the differences are subtle and Agility already amply sufficient for any user. In terms of price, the Agility can save you up to 50 euros against similar performing models, which is not to be ignored. The Agility features the Indilinx controller, which comes with proper monitoring of firmware provided by OCZ and a 3 year warranty."

"Our verdict on the Agility SSD is very positive since it comes with very accurate flow rates at all levels and it saves about 10% on the entry price of other OCZ Barefoot SSDs, with only a slight degradation in performance in comparison. In short, the value of this SSD will reside mainly for fans of the brand who want access to this type of SSD by limiting spending. OCZ has had the good idea to make a firmware manager available for TRIM allowing, when invoked by the OS or Wiper utility, a restore to a good level of performance. OCZ remains a very competitive manufacturer of SSDs."

"Our verdict on the Vertex Turbo SSD is quite positive, since it is an overclocked Barefoot controller with very good read rates, among the best whatever the conditions. Writing is also at the top of the pile. When compared to the Intel X25-M Postville, it is practically equal in read speeds and easily exceeds them in sequential writing, being generally more efficient with small files in system responsiveness and in bench applications. IOMeter allows us to confirm some of the first impressions; the curve of sequential reading is excellent as it exceeds that of Barefoot "classics" by a few Mb/s."
