Important SSD notes:
Solid State Drives DO NOT require defragmentation. It may decrease the lifespan of the drive.
Consumers may see a discrepancy between reported capacity and actual capacity; the storage industry standard is to display capacity in decimal. However, the operating system usually calculates capacity in binary format, causing traditional HDD and SSD to show a lower capacity in Windows. In the case of SSDs, some of the capacity is reserved for formatting and redundancy for wear leveling. These reserved areas on an SSD may occupy up to 5% of the drive’s storage capacity. In OCZ’s Indilinx-based SSDs, the naming convention reflects this and the 30 is equivalent to the 32GB, the 60 is equivalent to 64GB, and so on.
Rated speeds may vary slightly depending on the benchmark used, drivers, windows version, bios version and file size. We recommend using ATTO, IOMeter, and PC Mark Vantage for benchmarking SSDs.
To continually improve and optimize our SSDs, OCZ will release new firmware updates. Please visit our SSD Update section to check the latest offerings.

“The Vertex Turbo is an excellent SSD for overall performance. The Indilinx controller, firmware upgrades, price/performance, 3-year warranty and TRIM/Garbage Collection support are all positives for the Vertex Turbo. In sequential playback, the curve of the Vertex Turbo 30GB version is more regular...better than the Kingston / Intel 40GB for example."
TweakPC (Germany)
"The performance of the OCZ Vertex Turbo in file tests is a tick above the already very fast OCZ Vertex. For larger blocks, the Turbo also exceeds the Vertex by finding the 250 MB limit. Looking at the direct comparison with the Vertex, we see that the Turbo, even with small block sizes, increases the performance. The Turbo seems to clearly now benefit from the overclocked Controller. With the 1.5 firmware has greatly improved the linear reading performance. When it comes to writing, the Vertex Turbo is on average 10 MB/s faster than the original Vertex."
Hardware Magazine (Russia)
“The OCZ Vertex Turbo version is built on the SCSI controller Indilinx IDX110M00-LC. In order that it would be even a little closer in performance to the SSD from Intel, OCZ engineers upgrade the controller itself and the cache. Performance is improved with an overclocked controller. Installing an SSD in your system will dramatically improve access speeds. 250GB is quite enough storage, not only as the system disk for desktop use, but also as main drive in the notebook. This is both for notebooks with power-hungry applications as well as notebooks with that are less filled."
Le Comptoir du Hardware (France)
"Our verdict on the Vertex Turbo SSD is quite positive, since it is an overclocked Barefoot controller with very good read rates, among the best whatever the conditions. Writing is also at the top of the pile. When compared to the Intel X25-M Postville, it is practically equal in read speeds and easily exceeds them in sequential writing, being generally more efficient with small files in system responsiveness and in bench applications. IOMeter allows us to confirm some of the first impressions; the curve of sequential reading is excellent as it exceeds that of Barefoot "classics" by a few Mb/s."
Cowcotland France
"In reading, the Turbo reaches the 213 MB/sec average speed and does not fluctuate at all, it is extremely stable. The access time is 0.1 ms, quite logical for a SSD. Note that with files of 128 KB, it reaches the 235 MB/sec. In writing, the results are as good, with a 158 MB/sec average, so 13 MB/sec more than the 145 advertised. The Vertex Turbo navigates the curve between 143 and 194 MB/sec. Finally our last test shows that the Turbo reached its max speed when writing files to 32K, which is pretty impressive. The small 30GB Vertex Turbo has fooled us. With its cache boosted, it manages to do as well as the 64 GB Indilinx model. The Vertex Turbo is an excellent choice."
AwardFabrik (Germany)
"OCZ has developed a very fast SSD with the Vertex Turbo. The Indilinx controller works perfectly together with the MLC NAND and provides very high data rates. Even the look of the SSD can convince us with its black casing. The processing of the OCZ SSD leaves nothing to be desired. The good performance comes at a price, but this is not too expensive. The price of the Vertex Turbo line is comparable to other manufacturers. For users who are willing to pay a bit extra for good performance, the OCZ Turbo Vertex is definitely worth a look."

"The OCZ Vertex Turbo we reviewed today is the top performance in its sector. If you are an overclocker, the hardcore gamer or at least a lover of pure performance, it is the OCZ Vertex Turbo SSD you're looking for, capable of guaranteeing performance superior to any other product. In this light then PC Tuner staff decided to give the OCZ Vertex Turbo 120GB the “Best Product” award."
PC World (Norway)
"The Vertex Turbo was basically the fastest SSD we tested from OCZ. The reason why the Vertex Turbo will be a bit faster than other Indilinx-based SSDs is located in the controller, as the memory has a little more speed. While most provide the maximum reading speed of 230-250 megabytes per second, the Vertex Turbo delivers 270 megabytes per second. The write speed comes in at 170-180 seconds, while the Vertex Turbo manages to hit 210 megabytes per second."
PC Games Hardware (Germany): SSD Round-Up
"For those who want to spend a bit more on a SSD, we recommend the OCZ Vertex Turbo with 120GB and overclocked Indilinx controller (180MHz instead of 166MHz). It's on par with the SuperTalent drive when it comes to Read performance, but it's way ahead with 222MB/s Write. Access times of the Vertex Turbo is also very good, same goes for the results of our file copy tests. With the latest firmware it supports TRIM, at least when used with Windows 7."
Desktop Review: Holiday Buyer's Guide
"You might be looking for some place to store your several hundred family pictures. Maybe your desktop needs some pep to play today's latest games. Take a look at the following accessories that DesktopReview.com thought made the grade and see if there's something you'll want under the tree. While OCZ has always been known as a premium memory brand, long the bastion of enthusiasts and performance junkies, they've really made a name for themselves in the past year or so with the introduction of several lines of solid state drives. Some of them are geared for affordability, some of them are tweaked for performance. The Vertex Turbo, as its name implies, is definitely one of the latter."
Techzine (Netherlands)
"A Windows boot time of just thirteen seconds left my mouth fall open when testing the OCZ Vertex Turbo. Buy the OCZ Vertex Turbo. It is currently one of the fastest and best solid state drives that you can buy. If you want your PC a huge performance boost certainly buy a SSD. Get rid of those old hard drives!”
Hardwareluxx (Germany): Christmas Gift Guide
"The OCZ Vertex Turbo is based on the little sister, which is the very popular Vertex SSD. This relies on the Indilinx Barefoot Controller, which this year made a large stake in the success contributed to the development of SSD. Since OCZ wish to push the performance of the controller to maximum satisfaction, they have decided to overclock the cache. The result: an extremely fast SSD which accelerates the performance of your system to a brutal level."
Hardware Magazine (Russia)
"The strength of OCZ Vertex Turbo is undoubtedly the sequential write speed. In this test, it bypasses the Intel X25-M G2 1.5 times over! This SSD is well able to handle reading a large number of small files. Remarkably, even after the free space on the disk was exhausted, the write speed does not fall much. It seems that with the release of firmware with enhanced GC and TRIM support, the differences will be even less."
PC Magazine (Russia)
"This drive is targeted at the high-end segment. In fact, its performance results are one of the best in the group and defeats most of the other drives and impressed our Editors the most. The Turbo deserves recognition for read performance, and the maximum speed for data transfer."
Anandtech: Windows 7 and TRIM Testing
"TRIM is a huge step forward in SSD maturity and readiness for the masses. If you're buying an Indilinx drive the rate of firmware releases pretty much dictates that you'll want to buy from OCZ. None of the other Indilinx manufacturers have Windows 7 TRIM support yet. The additional testing and exclusive agreements that OCZ have with Indilinx provide their customers a tangible advantage in this case. I still firmly believe that an SSD is the single best performance improvement you can buy for your system today."
Desktop Review
"OCZ has put a lot of work into making MLC SSDs shine, and drives like the Vertex Turbo show it. While the Turbo branding shares most of the same fundamentals as the earlier Vertex (sans Turbo) drives do, they've been tweaked to get as much performance out of the hardware as possible. The Vertex Turbo is even faster. If you have an older hard drive, and are looking to take your system's responsiveness to a whole new level, look no further than these guys. Older systems become unimaginably snappy, and fast, modern systems? They get taken to a new level entirely."
Custom PC
"Like the Vertex, the Vertex Turbo sports an Indilinx IDX110M00 controller with 64MB of cache and 120GB of MLC NAND flash memory. However, OCZ has overclocked the host clock and cache in the Vertex Turbo from the 166 MHz of the standard Vertex to 180 MHz. OCZ claims that the Vertex Turbo can read and write at up to 270 MB/s and 200 MB/s respectively, it managed an above average 32.9 MB/s random read in Iometer and a random write speed of 10.09 MB/s."
Chip (Poland)
"The Vertex Turbo received outstanding results during our tests when it came to peak read and write speeds, the average performance are the highest we have seen from any SSD so far! Furthermore, it also achieved the highest IOPS of any SSD tested so far. The Vertex Turbo also scored extremely high in our other tests such as PCMark05, PCMark Vantage and in Vista, also the highest results we have seen from any SSD tested so far. he test results and the ranking of this SSD speak for themselves!"
MikroDatorn (Sweden): SSD Comparison
"The OCZ Vertex Turbo is for enthusiasts that are willing to invest more in higher performance. When increasing the number and size of files the Vertex Turbo performs much better – just as we expected."
CPU Magazine
"The new Vertex vaults past the performance of a first-gen but firmware-patched Intel X25-M in many of our benchmarks. OCZ tuned the firmware with proprietary tweaks, and it looks like whatever it did to the ARM-based Indilinx Barefoot controller was effective. The mere fact that OCZ provides a performance restoration utility shows that the company is dedicated to keeping its customers’ SSDs from slowing down over time due to deleted files lingering on. Pushing things even further, OCZ slightly overclocked the Turbo’s cache, which weighs in at a more than healthy 64MB, from 166MHz to 180MHz (nearly 8.5%)."
Hardware Secrets
"The peripheral has everything a gaming-grade mouse requires: adjustable weight, function buttons, individual profiles, and high precision. The rubberized body is very comfortable and can be used of hours without being tiring. The Eclipse handled more than adequately in two weeks of intense usage, both as a work mouse and a gaming-grade device, over a tabletop surface and a mouse pad. In final analysis, the Eclipse offers everything a gamer looks for in a gaming-grade mouse at a reasonable price. It’s a recommended acquisition all the way."
Ferra Labs (Russia)
"In the entry benchmark HD-Tune test, the test shows the Vertex Turbo leading the way. Intel is very much behind. The Vertex Turbo is slightly more expensive than other models, but this is combined with top performance. We believe that the OCZ drives are the best purchase for those who need the speed and volume."
PC-Max (Germany): SSD Comparison
"The Vertex Turbo has an overclocked chip cache and beat the best drives in our test, especially in our Cyrstal Mark benchamrks."
OC3D
"The Vertex Turbo was the fastest drive to use outside of the synthetic benchmarks. I encountered absolutely no stuttering while using this drive as the main boot drive housing Windows Vista 64bit over a two week period and this is where I feel the drive comes into it's own. The drive was the quickest SSD on test in terms of Vista boot up and shutdown...there is no doubting that the OCZ drive is certainly a rapid, high performing piece of kit. Should you decide to lay claim to the OCZ Vertex Turbo, one thing I can guarantee you is blistering performance, the likes of which you have to experience to believe and no amount of text can describe the improvements an SSD of this caliber can make to a high end computer system."
MacLife (Greece)
"The Vertex Turbo 120GB is one of the best in the market (perhaps with the minimum seek time of less than 0.1ms) and is defined as a safe choice in a relatively affordable cost for its category. Furthermore this particular SSD seems ideal for most implementations, both mobile and fixed Mac, since the actual capacity of 128GB it allows the installation of the operating and storage of significant volumes of files. For the user who wants to get the maximum from their computer, the Vertex Turbo is essential."
Tom's Hardware: SSD Summer Slam
"The Vertex Turbo is an improved version of the Vertex, running with faster cache memory clocked at 180 MHz as opposed to Indilinx’s usual 166 MHz. Obviously, overclocking has arrived in the storage market. The result is improved throughput and dramatically improved write performance. OCZ went extreme with the Vertex Turbo and overclocked the cache memory in an effort to increase throughput. The company succeeded!"
F-Center (Russia)
"On large files in «ISO» the Indilinx drives cope best. The promised speeds, though not visible, but stable with a slight hundred megabytes per second for the Vertex Turbo and other OCZ drives. The track record of files in this test seems to be built on large files – the drives with Indilinx form a clear lead, demonstrating a very high write rate and excellent performance."
Sweclockers (Sweden)
"The OCZ Vertex Turbo is a tuned version of the Vertex. The clockfrequency has been increased, cache has been overclocked from 166 to 180MHz which further increases the performance."

“Vertex Turbo runs ahead of the other Indilinx-based drives, posting some outstanding numbers, even ahead of the Intel SSD. Vertex Turbo clearly posted outstanding numbers in the Sequential Read department. Again, the Vertex Turbo blows away the hard drives in raw Read speeds but even beats the other SSDs as well, posting the fastest numbers we've seen to date. After seeing the Vertex Turbo 120GB in action, we can definitively say the OCZ Vertex Turbo is without a doubt the fastest SSD we've tested, and we've see our fair share of drives. We've looked at most of the top SSDs on the market and the Vertex Turbo's performance results are simply outstanding. After all the dust settles, the OCZ Vertex Turbo puts up some eye-watering performance results across the board, leaving the competition behind.”
Hot Hardware
“As you can see in the chart above, a slight edge overall going to the OCZ Vertex Turbo series drive, which was the best performer throughout. The OCZ Vertex Turbo Series proved to be the highest performing drives in the group represented in this article. We should also point out that the Vertex Turbo Series drive's faster cache gave it a marked edge over the standard Vertex drive. Ultimately, overall performance weighs heavily in our opinion, but we can't ignore the value proposition. Hence, we're giving the OCZ Vertex Turbo Series drive a strong recommendation.”
c’t Magazine (Germany)
"The OCZ Vertex Turbo is the youngest member of the Indilinx controller family SSDs and comes with overclocked components. OCZ set out to solve the issues of SSDs that slow down after a while of usage. A new firmware carries the so called Garbage Collection feature that is meant to improve the write performance. OCZ keeps the firmware updates coming, we saw betas of 1.41 and 1.42 on their forums - that'd be updates number 6 and 7."
PC Update (France)
"Vertex Turbo is identical to the Vertex base regarding memory chips, ie MLC Samsung. Where it differs is in the frequency of the cache that goes from 166 to 180 MHz. The controller is also slightly boosted, while the Turbo's firmware is optimized and it is specific. The gain occurs mainly during sequential writes and random read performance is more close to those of the basic version of Vertex. Compatible with TRIM via the Wiper Utility."
Tec Channel (Germany)
"OCZ offers even faster SSDs with the new Vertex Turbo series. OCZ uses the well known Indilinx Barefoot controller, although with higher clock frequency. The 180MHz 64MB cache chip is supposed to outperform the usual 166MHz units. The Turbo cache really lives up to it's name. Maximum sequential read is a very good 246MB/s. We're convinced by the impressive 236MB/s sequential write maximum, very good 223MB/s being the average value."
Guru 3D
"The Vertex Turbo SSD series offers the same Indilinx 'Barefoot' controller and 64MB of DRAM buffer that the regular edition has, but now boasts ultra-fast 270/200 MBps read and write speed. An overclocked cache, now that is just sexy. I feel it's refreshing what OCZ is trying to accomplish here. From swift to fast to faster to freakishly furious really. The Vertex TURBO is without doubt the fastest SSD we have ever had in our hands."
PC Wiz Kid Tech Talk
"PCWizKid was truly impressed with the comfortable styling and smoothness all round. The ability to record the macros and store configuration settings on board is a big plus for those hardcore gamers going to LAN parties and looking to quickly get into the game hassle free. PCWizKid gives this a editors choice recommendation as the OCZ Behemoth Laser Gaming Mouse did indeed live up to expectations and proved to be a great peripheral any gamer should not be without."
Driver Heaven
“With the Vertex Turbo OCZ have created the fastest Indilinx based SSD we have tested. The enhanced specifications of the drive allowed it to outperform the standard Crucial model throughout our review. A particular highlight was the high definition video writing test where the Vertex Turbo achieved results 20mb/s faster than the standard Indilinx drive. When comparing the Turbo to drives based on other controllers we see that it regularly outperforms the Intel X25-M. When making the decision on which drive to purchase the decision should not be based purely on performance though. The 3-year warranty offered by OCZ is good and exceeds most other companies but it is their user forum which is the most impressive aspect of the support process. Without doubt the best Indilinx based SSD available."
PC Welt (Germany)
“Compared to the OCZ Vertex SSD, the Vertex Turbo comes with handpicked controller and flash chips. The Turbo version of the Vertex really lives up to it's name. Exceptional performance is what we have seen when benchmarking the OCZ Vertex Turbo, it's the fastest MLC SSD we have ever seen. 102.5MB/s is more than any other MLC SSD achieved in our labs. The OCZ Vertex Turbo shows superb performance and is the fastest SSD with MLC technology on the market. We were delighted especially by the real world performance of this drive. The faster cache proved to be a good idea as it improves the access time by up to 50% compared to other drives with Indilinx controllers. We honor this with our Innovation Award. Another big pro is the service provided by OCZ. They don't just offer an extended warranty of 3 years but also firmware updates and various SSD tools."
Benchmark Reviews
"The OCZ Vertex Turbo leads the pack of Indilinx-based SSDs and performs at near-SLC levels with 327 read and 429 write IOPS. While all of these benchmarks indicate the general bandwidth 'speed' was the highest among MLC SSDs available, input/output performance results were also very high compared to ultra-premium SLC SSDs. Since MLC Solid State Drive products are the most consumer-affordable products of the genre, it's nice that OCZ's Vertex Turbo series is closing the gap between MLC and more expensive SLC SSDs. The MLC SSD market has never seen a faster portable storage product. The OCZ Vertex Turbo series is a premium high-performance Solid State Drive recommended to enthusiasts wanting the absolute best performance from their computer system."
PC World (France)
“The Turbo version makes use of the same controller as the regular version but OCZ has increased both the host clock-speed and the SDR DRAM Cache to 180MHz versus 166MHz on the original series. In addition to that OCZ has developed a special firmware to further optimize the performance. When it comes to random read, the Vertex Turbo performs at a higher level than the Intel X25-E Go, which is a great achievement, this is the case right from the beginning – truly impressive. Fortunately there is the utility that supports Wiper TRIM, allowing the controller to indicate how best to organize the performance. The Turbo steps it up a notch and offers higher performance, even exceeding the performance of the Intel drives. All in all the Vertex Turbo is an excellent SSD, if you can spare the additional investment for this model you will not regret your purchase!”
